The dominant story of music culture today is one of unprecedented access: anyone can produce, anyone can distribute, anyone can reach an audience. What that story obscures is the simultaneous erosion of the conditions under which musical communities have historically formed – transforming relationships between people and places, and shared memories.
Pass-The-Aux is built in response to that shift. It builds a translocal infrastructure for international mobility, cultural exchange, and long-term networking among music producers. Rather than treating international mobility and music export as the circulation of individual artists, it strengthens connections between local music communities, creating reciprocal pathways through which knowledge, practices, and professional relationships move across borders while remaining anchored in their local contexts.
In practice, Pass-The-Aux takes the form of a recurring, free drop-in music sharing and discovery experience where producers gather in venues equipped with professional sound systems to share demos, sketches, and unreleased material. It creates space not only for exposure and networking, but for producers to situate their work, practice articulating ideas, share stories, and have a good time.
Music producers remain structurally overlooked within traditional export frameworks and mobility funding schemes. At the same time, many of the existing formats – writing camps, residencies, expos – tend to become too instrumental, too transactional, too short-lived to sustain meaningful exchange.
Pass-The-Aux sits in that gap. It offers a slower and more participatory model for how independent cultural infrastructure can be built: one that prioritizes continuity over intensity, and relationships over outputs. In doing so, it points toward more resilient and internationally connected music ecosystems that are not dependent on scale, speed, or extraction, but on repeated encounters over time.
With over 30 editions across Copenhagen, Malmö, London, Riga, and Helsinki – each iteration adapting to its local setting while remaining part of the same underlying infrastructure – Pass-The-Aux is establishing a new model for international mobility and music export.
