LYSSNA

Certain aesthetic traditions are offered a lot of grace. Others are not. LYSSNA starts from a structural observation: Swedish media does not give rappers, beatmakers and music producers enough room to speak at length about their work and process.

The LYSSNA format gives artists and producers working within an aesthetic orientation based on appropriation – sprung from the subcultures of the 1980s and 90s – extended time and space to share the stories, memories, and references that surround a particular body of work, in front of an audience that is there to listen.

LYSSNA is a live, interactive podcast in which extended conversations with artists and producers unfold in front of – and in dialogue with – an audience. The format is built on active listening: the audience is not a passive presence but a participant in the process of deepening the relationship between a listener and a body of work.

What the format demonstrates is that depth is not a property of certain traditions – it is a property of the conditions you create for them.
